‘Nicolaas’ is an activity centre where you can find a lunchroom, bakery, art studio Appingedam, a peddingzoo and a place for elderly people. This place was a church in the old centre of Appingedam, now it’s a catering with a really good atmosphere. Citizens like to come over for a cup of coffee or tea with cake or a baguette from Nicolaas’ own bakery. The committee rooms in the top of the church are often rent to third parties. The petting zoo is on the land of ‘Erkenstein’. Clients take care of the animals with help from the students of the ‘Noorderpoortcollege’. They mow the grass and make sure the zoo looks great every single day. ‘Nicolaas’ has his own transport for the clients to and from Erkenstein. Clients have the possibility to work somewhere else as well, with guidance.
