You can find ‘De Blauwe Roek’ in the centre of Drachten. This art studio is named after a piece from the artist Sieberen de Vries, who works at the art studio.
‘De Blauwe Roek’ is known in Holland, but also in other countries. There are foreign cities who have art on loan, for example Barcelona and the Dr. Guislainmuseum in Gent.
The Cobra museum in Amstelveen had pieces from Antje Postma, Sieberen de Vries and others. Artists of ‘De Blauwe Roek’ have been nominated for the K4 Award.
Art studio ‘De Blauwe Roek’ has 16 artists with special needs, who choose for the ‘Blauwe Roek’ themselves. Every artist has his own reasons for starting with painting and drawing, they all have their own perspective. For example the paintings of Bardo Zandvoort show his love for his relatives and Freek van der Veen is promoting Friesland with his paintings. The paintings of Sieberen de Vries show his idols and for Ineke Dijkstra it’s more about which materials she uses than what the subject of the painting is. With the promotion of paintings ‘De Blauwe Roek’ wants to help artists with special needs to have a place in the society. The artists are guided by Martin Brandsma and Hanneke Winius, they are both graduated as a teacher for drawing and painting. The most important thing of the guidance is the consent of the artists. This is accomplished within ‘De Blauwe Roek’ by respectful teamwork, treat each other as equals and creating a harmonious working place.
