On Saturday the 31 October 12 winners out of 37 artists of our international contest “Water for Dubai” where published. The artists are working in different studios in Belgium, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates. All these artists made a painting with “water” as a theme. These paintings were placed on the voting website www.voteforbeautifulpeople.com This website was officially opened by Mr. Abdulla Al Awar, CEO of the wealthy Dubai International Financial Center ‘DIFC’. From all countries people could vote on their favourite artist. Finally 12 winners where chosen; from the Netherlands: Martin Koster, Mieke Eissens, Esther van Goor and Marlyn Tanamal, from Belgium: Yannick Teirbrood en Christa Allegaert. From Switzerland: Myriam Schoen en Geraldine Piller and from Dubai: James Casaki, Zara Kavarana, Rukaya Hussain en Rashid Al Suwaidi. The winning images can be found on the “water crockery” cups, six cappuccino cups and six espresso cups. Under the watchful eye of the UAE minister of culture and social development. HE Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, and the Consul General of the Netherlands, Mr. van Spronsen, the "Water" exhibition starts in the prestigious Grand Hyatt Hotel. The art competition and exhibition were part of the awareness program in Dubai. Those arts are designed to get attention for people with special needs in Dubai and the Emirates. To achieve this goal an Dubai Artstudio will be opened in 2010 in Al Bastakiya district which is the heart of Culture and Art in Dubain. It is under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Wemmy de Maaker will manage the Artstudio in Dubai. It will be the first studio for people with intellectual disabilities. It is intended that multiple art studios open in the Emirates. Possibilities in Abu Dhabi are being looked at. The art studio will be part of the Beautiful People art club will receive therefore financial support from the Beautiful People coffee concept.
