Rainforest Alliance is an environmental organization based in the United States and committed to sustainable production of for example coffee and tea. A Rainforest Alliance certified product is identified by the logo with the green frog. In the Netherlands ‘Chiquita bananas’ is one of the most famous RFA-certified brands.
Rainforest Alliance exclusively works with certified farms and plantations. These farms and plantations are monitored and accredited by independent organizations so that the integrity of the Rainforest Alliance Certificate is guaranteed. Rainforest Alliance is worldwide the most independent label in the field of sustainable production and development.
Farmers must comply with about 200 requirements before they may earn the logo. These requirements relate to nature conservation, forest management and water conservation. It is also very important that all employees receive at least the minimum wage and are entitled to good secondary conditions. The difference with for example the ‘Max Havelaar certificate’ is that the Rainforest Alliance gives no price guarantees to the farmers. The results is a coffee with a constant high quality.
The aim of Rain Forest Alliance is: "To maintain biodiversity and ensure sustainable living conditions." The Rain Forest Alliance concentrates their efforts in Latin America in the Amazon region.
The RFA logo can be found on our Beautiful People coffee packaging and on the inside of our coffee cups.
